Frequently Asked
Questions
Find answers to common questions about our staffing services, recruitment process, job opportunities, and how Northern Staffing helps businesses connect with the right talent.
1. What is Northern Staffing?
Northern Staffing is a Canadian recruitment and staffing agency based in Mississauga, Ontario. We connect employers with pre-screened, reliable workers and help job seekers find temporary, contract, and permanent employment across a range of industries. Our office is located at Unit L-22, 7200 Goreway Drive, Mississauga, Ontario, L4T 2S7.
2.What industries does Northern Staffing serve?
We recruit for manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, logistics and transportation, construction, hospitality and food service, skilled trades, office administration, and customer service. If your industry isn't listed, contact us — we regularly source for specialized roles on request.
3.What types of roles do you fill?
We staff temporary, long-term contract, contract-to-hire, and permanent (direct hire) positions. Common placements include General Labour, Warehouse Associates, Forklift Operators, Shippers/Receivers, Production and Assembly Workers, Heavy Machine Operators, CNC Operators, Construction Workers, Cooks and Kitchen Staff, Customer Service Representatives, and Office Administrators.
4.Which areas do you serve?
We serve employers and job seekers across the Greater Toronto Area — including Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Etobicoke, Vaughan, Milton, and Oakville — as well as other regions across Ontario. For roles outside the GTA, get in touch and we'll confirm whether we can support your location.
5.How do I get in touch with Northern Staffing?
You can reach us by phone at 905-904-5552 or 905-904-7300, by email at hr@northernstaffing.ca, or through the contact form on our website. Employers looking to discuss a hiring requirement can request a callback and a member of our team will respond promptly.
6. What makes Northern Staffing different from other staffing agencies?
We combine a rigorous screening process with genuine industry knowledge and a personal approach to every placement. Rather than pushing volume, we focus on fit — matching the right worker to the right role — which reduces turnover for employers and builds better careers for candidates.
7. How does the hiring process work with Northern Staffing?
We start with a consultation to understand your role requirements, shift patterns, pay rates, site conditions, and company culture. Our recruiters then source and screen candidates from our talent network, present a shortlist for your review, and coordinate interviews, onboarding, and start dates.
8. How do you screen and verify candidates?
Timelines depend on the role and how specialized it is. For general labour and warehouse positions we can often present qualified candidates within 24 to 48 hours, while skilled trades, supervisory, and executive roles typically take longer as we work through a more selective search.
9. How do you screen and verify candidates?
Our process includes resume screening, a recruiter interview, skills and experience verification, reference checks, and confirmation of legal eligibility to work in Canada. Where a client or role requires it, we also arrange criminal record checks, certification verification (such as forklift or WHMIS), and drug and alcohol screening.
10.Can we hire a temporary worker permanently?
Yes. Our contract-to-hire model lets you evaluate a worker's performance, reliability, and cultural fit on the job before making a permanent offer. This significantly reduces hiring risk and is one of the most popular options among our clients.
11.Can you handle high-volume or seasonal hiring?
Yes. We regularly support clients with seasonal peaks, new production lines, facility expansions, and short-notice project work. Whether you need five workers or fifty, our recruitment team can scale to meet the requirement.
12. What happens if a placed worker isn't the right fit?
Let us know as soon as possible and we'll work to replace the worker quickly. Our aim is to keep your operation running without disruption, so we maintain an active bench of pre-screened candidates for common roles. [Note for client: if you offer a formal guarantee or replacement period, we should state the exact terms here.]
13.How much does it cost to use Northern Staffing?
Pricing depends on the service model (temporary, contract-to-hire, or direct hire), the role, the volume of hires, and the length of the assignment. We provide clear, transparent quotes with no hidden charges — contact us for a rate specific to your requirement.
14.Do you provide workers for evening, night, and weekend shifts?
Yes. Many of the industries we serve run multiple shifts, and our talent pool includes workers available for afternoons, nights, weekends, and rotating schedules.
15.What information do you need to start a search?
The more detail the better, but at minimum we need the job title and duties, number of positions, location, shift times, pay rate, required certifications or experience, and your target start date. From there we can begin sourcing immediately.
16.Is there any fee for job seekers?
No. Our services are completely free for candidates. You will never be asked to pay to register, apply, or be placed in a role.
17.How do I apply for a job?
Browse the current openings on our Job Board and submit your application online with an up-to-date resume. If your background matches an available opportunity, a recruiter will contact you to discuss the role and next steps.
18.What documents do I need to apply?
You'll need a current resume, valid government-issued photo ID, your Social Insurance Number, and proof of your legal right to work in Canada. Some roles also require specific certifications such as a forklift licence, WHMIS training, safety boots, or a valid driver's licence.
19.Do I need previous experience to be placed?
Not always. Many of our entry-level general labour, warehouse, and production roles are open to candidates with little or no prior experience, provided you're reliable and willing to learn. Skilled trades and specialized positions do require relevant experience or certification.
20.Can international students or workers on a permit apply?
Yes, as long as you hold a valid work permit or study permit that allows employment in Canada and you meet the conditions attached to it. We verify work eligibility for every placement.
21.How often will I be paid?
Workers on assignment through Northern Staffing are paid on a regular schedule, with pay deposited directly to your bank account. Your recruiter will confirm the pay frequency and rate for your specific assignment before you start.
22.What happens after I submit my application?
Your application is reviewed by our recruitment team and kept on file for suitable openings. If you're shortlisted, a recruiter will call or email you for a short interview, then walk you through onboarding, site details, and your start date.
23.Will Northern Staffing support me after I start work?
Yes. We stay in contact with both you and the employer after placement to make sure onboarding goes smoothly and to resolve any issues that come up. If you'd like to move into a different role or a permanent position, let your recruiter know.
24.Who is my employer while I'm on assignment?
For temporary and contract assignments, Northern Staffing is your employer of record. We handle your payroll, statutory deductions, and employment records, while you work at the client's site under their day-to-day direction.
25.Are temporary workers covered by WSIB?
Yes. Workers placed on assignment through Northern Staffing are covered under our WSIB account for the duration of the assignment. If you're injured at work, report it to both the site supervisor and your Northern Staffing recruiter immediately. [Note for client: confirm active WSIB coverage and Ontario temporary help agency licence number before this goes live — Ontario requires licensed temporary help agencies to display their licence.]
26. Do you comply with Ontario employment standards?
Yes. We operate in accordance with the Ontario Employment Standards Act, including requirements around wages, overtime, public holidays, vacation pay, and termination. We're also committed to a workplace free of discrimination and harassment under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
27.Is personal information kept confidential?
